On December 6th, 2015, the 4th Annual First Responders Grim Reaper Burger Challenge for Toys for Tots took place at Lucky’s Burger & Brew. Head Chef and General Manager, Ted Lescher, stopped contemplating the idea of the Grim Reaper Burger Challenge and made it into a real life event. Hesitant on how to stage the event four years ago, Lescher decided to contact the police and fire departments to see if they would like to be involved.

“We decided to ask the fire and police departments if they would like to help us do a little more to help the community and Toys for Tots by participating. Thankfully, both departments agreed to join the friendly–and maybe a little messy–competition,” Lescher said. The contest then became reality when two officers, one from the Roswell police department and one from the Roswell fire department, attempted to eat an entire Grim Reaper burger.

The legendary Grim Reaper burger from Lucky’s consists of a four-pound all-beef patty, a pound of bacon stacked high, a half dozen fried eggs, an order of onion rings, stacked and layered in a specially-made bun with chili cheese Tater Tots on the side. Not only did they have to clean their plate, but they had to do so in only one hour.  For entry to the spectacle, guests were asked to bring an unwrapped new toy for Toys for Tots. Able to take the challenge head on, the Roswell police department took home the victory this year.

A Little About Lucky’s: Owners, Ernie and Diane Geyer, named their restaurant after their Golden Retriever “Lucky” and placed the newly established restaurant in the heart of Roswell. It didn’t make sense to Ernie to not make it so that Lucky could experience the restaurant with his owners; so he made sure Lucky could spend work days alongside them. He created a patio with water bowls and treats for Lucky, along with a bar with cold beer and big TV’s for himself.

Lucky can often be seen spending his afternoon cooling off on the patio there, enjoying a burger and his favorite beverage. Lucky’s Burger & Brew’s main goal is to keep a relaxed, fun atmosphere where both humans and canines can enjoy their favorite burgers and beverages together!

From the owners: “At Lucky’s we always want to keep your tail wagging, so please let us know if there is anything we can do to make your dining experience more enjoyable!”
